Almost everybody has an urge, sometimes deep inside, to find out what our unique gifts are and to bring them out into the world. The process of opening up to our creative depths and transcending our own upper limits is what allows us to achieve our goals and dreams.
Gay Hendricks, Ph.D., has been a leader in the fields of relationship transformation and bodymind therapies for over 45 years. After earning his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Stanford, Gay served as professor at the University of Colorado for 21 years. He has written and co-authored (with his wife Katie) 35 books, including the bestseller Conscious Loving, which is used as a primary text in universities around the world.
In this episode, which originally aired in 2014, Gay joined me on the show to talk about human potential, the things that get in the way, and how to reach full potential.
When Gay thinks about humans developoing their potential, he talks about several different zones. These are: the Zone of Competence, the Zone of Excellence, and the Zone of Genius. Your Zone of Genius is the thing that lights you up in life. The thing that you are great at and could do all day long without tiring of it.
Listen in to this episode to hear the entire discussion. You’ll learn how to find what your Zone of Genius is, what mine and Gay’s are, how to keep your spark of creativity alive, how to be present in your life, and how to reach your full potential.
