Think of a time when you needed something to keep you going in a moment of fear or uncertainty. Maybe you were about to speak in front of an audience or you found yourself in an unexpected situation and you needed to act fast. Courage is the thing that you can lean into for support and balance to get you through those moments.
Andrea Scher is a blogger, podcaster, artist, photographer, life coach, and author. At the time of this interview in 2012, Andrea was teaching a course called Cultivating Courage. In this episode we discuss all things courage and where you might need it in your life.
You might think that courage is a static personality trait and that people are either courageous or not, but thankfully that’s not true. Courage is like a muscle: you can train it in manageable amounts over time so that it can grow stronger and do more heavy lifting for you.
As you listen, make some physical or mental notes about the courage building strategies and frameworks that Andrea and I discuss. We talk about our experiences, practices, and even give examples of challenge prompts that you can go out and do in your own life.
I hope this interview helps you learn or helps reinforce that courage is possible for you. We can all develop our courage muscle to the point that it’s reliable in times of uncertainty, nervousness, and fear.
