“What’s wrong with me?”
“Why am I not doing what I should be doing?”
Two reasons there’s a gap between what you know and what you do:
- The questions above lead to self-hatred … which is rooted in the feeling of SHAME.
- When rooted in SHAME, you either hide away or beat the crap out of yourself.
This gets in the way of practicing what you know.
To do what you know, you must be rooted in compassion.
Compassion is:
- Kindness: be kind to yourself, the way you would be kind to someone else.
- Common humanity: you’re not alone, others have this difficulty as well
- Mindfulness: the ability to know your thoughts + feelings w/o being attached to them
When you are in a compassionate place, you will be motivated to be a person who takes care of herself.
When you take care of yourself, you do the things you know you need to do.
You’re willing to practice.
You’re willing to make mistakes, because you’re now viewing these mistakes as learning opportunities.
You’re willing to practice some more.
From practice and more practice comes a new way of being. You become what you know you must do.
The path to doing what you know is through self-compassion, not shaming yourself via self-hatred.
Remember … compassion will always be your biggest motivator.
